Finding Cheap Air Tickets in US |
|
-Generally Airlines can afford cheaper tickets to destinations which are their own hubs. Some sample hubs are Alaska Airlines - Anchorage (ANC) America West : Phoenix (PHX) American Airlines: Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) Continental Airlines: Newark (EWR) Delta Airlines: Atlanta (ATL) Northwest Airlines: Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) US Air; PittsBurgh(PIT)/Philadelphia (PHL) United Airlines: Chicago Jetblue: Oakland (OAK) -No truth to the claim that internet tickets are cheaper. They are cheaper only if you bargain hunt, book weeks ahead, just like you would bargain hunt through a travel agent. In fact, sometimes it may be cheaper to use a travel agent because he books several tickets each day and will know which route and airline is cheaper. -Accept a little longer driving to get a cheaper ticket. For example, if you live in Princeton, NJ, it is cheaper to use Philadelphia Airport (1 hour south west from Princeton) when compared to Newark international airport (which is 35 minutes away towards north). Also the road traffic from Philly to Princeton is often smoother than from Newark to Princeton. -Accept ground transportation shuttle service in order to get a cheaper ticket. For example, if you are flying from San Jose, CA to Newark, NJ and the ticket costs ($500) then look for a ticket from SJC(CA) to JFK(NY) for $300. Then take the shuttle from JFK to EWR which will cost about $40 and one hour. Many east coast airports are linked by such shuttle services. You may also get take another shuttle from Newark to Philadelphia for $70. See, if you can combine ground transportation to your air travel, you get an additional dimension to your plans with considerable savings. Give ample duration to wait and take the shuttles! Patience is the factor here. |
